I really love reading Ariel aka bearbricklove's posts. I just wanna share some of the things I find interesting.

For those of you who love Bearbricks (that includes me), you'll certainly love to stay a night or two at Hotel Amour. Do drop by this hotel if you're in Paris. http://www.hotelamourparis.fr/

It's set up by renowned graffiti artist, a Parisian named André (borned and raised in France).

Rooms like these costs around 90 - 150 Euros per night. It's cheap for chic.

That's about 135 - 225 USD and 188 - 310 SGD. Well, prices for hotel rooms so hip and chic are considered cheap in Paris, France.

There is a catch though, the hotel does not have any television set or telephone, opting rather for vintage porno magazines and limited edition Bearbrick figurines as decor. I guess they stand by their belief that that is the way to be cool.

KAWS Dissected Companion Bearbrick by OriginalFake

It's such a great feeling to own a KAWS product. Saluting KAWS (Brian Donnelly) in a way.

He used to work for Disney as an animator and after moving to New York City he started swapping the images on billboards, bus shelters and phone booth advertisements. (e.g photo on the left)

Normal advertisements turned into advertisements with his drawings pasted onto them.

You must be wondering...

How did he open the cases?

He held a "masterkey" that would open up almost anything. It could be just a bendable needle for all we know.

My First Bearbrick Baby 3rd Edition [Black & Silver]

Went down to Plaza Singapura to collect this baby, literally. :D

And here it is, finally! "My First Bearbrick Baby 3rd Edition by Chiaki"
If you're wondering who Chiaki is, she is the actress in KillBill. lol

The name of this Bearbrick is also literally meshed together in the Bearbrick.
When you shake it, the matching-colourway balls rattles and sounds like a baby's rattle. :)

Alexander Girard International Love Hearts Bearbrick 1000%

Be@rbricks are on the Loose!

Have gotten the 1000% Alexander Girard Be@rbrick! Was considering and comparing but decided to get on with it.

It's my very first 1000% so you can't blame me for being excited! :p

Not that I've never seen 1000%s before but I was pretty stunned at its size!

Comparison between 100% [spot the 2 tiny ones right at the bottom-centre] and 400% and the 1000%.

Come on come on, when's my Be@rbrick B@by 3rd Edition coming?!?!?

Alexander Girard is back, and hard at work, and one of his mile stones is working with Medicom Toy Co. and lifestyle label Stitch. The outcome is the Bearbrick x Stitch 1000% International Love Heart, with its release celebrating Medicom Toy Exhibition 09. As you may already know, the 1000% is a very large Bearbrick, and the Bearbrick x Stitch collaboration features the International Love Heart on insignia on its chest, which is done by Alexander Girard. Available on July 4th 2009 at Stitch stores and in Daikanyama, Tokyo. Via WeeklyDrop.

My First Be@rbrick B@by Black and Silver

Medicom's "My First Bearbrick Baby" 3rd edition black and silver photos have finally been released. The Bearbrick itself was displayed at Singapore's STGCC Singapore Toy Games Comic Convention @ Suntec City.

This version is revamped for the better as it features a black/chrome colorway. It has a see-through body with a series of matching-coloured beads packed in it.

Daft Punk & Daft Punk Bearbricks.

Daft Punk! Listened to their songs when I was 13. I don't think anyone knows the latter. [but who cares isn't it?] =D Their songs are catchy and puts you in the groove, not because I really like House [genre].

Below: The actual Daft Punk duo! One reason why I admire them too, get ready to read this music people!

Basically, this is their response when asked why they signed with Virgin as their record company:

"Many record companies offered us deals. They came from everywhere, but we decided to wait--partly because we didn't want to lose control of what we had created. We turned down many record companies. We weren't interested in the money, so we turned down labels that were looking for more control than we were willing to give up. In reality, we're more like partners with Virgin."

Further added:

"We've got much more control than money. You can't get everything. We live in a society where money is what people want, so they can't get the control. We chose. Control is freedom. People say we're control freaks, but control is controlling your destiny without controlling other people. We're not trying to manipulate other people, just controlling what we do ourselves. Controlling what we do is being free. People should stop thinking that an artist that controls what he does is a bad thing. A lot of artists today are just victims, not having control, and they're not free. And that's pathetic. If you start being dependent on money, then money has to reach a point to fit your expenses"

After reading that, I just thought all of a sudden what would I want if I were an artiste, be it singer, producer whatever.

Well, I would definitely want control. With sufficient control, I'll be able to create oppurtunities for myself, making money from there. =P Still, control is rare and difficult to come by.

Actually this has been for quite some time (knew it for a long while but decided to post it up anyway). This guy above is a great designer! The 1000% Bearbrick he had taken a photo with has been personally designed and created by him. Wow?

Nike Windrunner Bearbrick

As the years go by, the designs are getting less interesting and appealing (personally). I only started being a designer toy collector last year and this Nike Windrunner Bearbrick was out in 2007. They have 10 designs (all looking suave and sexy). I just contacted Nike and asked about the one above. Hope to get a satisfying reply.

Be@rbrick The Joker

We just heard about Be@rbrick & Kubrick The Dark Knight Twin Pack a while ago. Now, we would like to present you the long rumors - 400% Be@rbrick The Joker from the Blockbuster Movie - The Dark Knight. The design of this limited Be@rbrick is inspired by the movie poster - “Why So Serious?”.

This 400% Be@rbrick The Joker is limited to 800 pcs. 300 pcs of this Be@rbrick will be release by Medicom Toy on the 3rd August 2008 at Wonder Festival in Japan. Another 500 pcs will be available for online order.

The Joker is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by DC Comics. The character first appeared in Batman #1 (Spring 1940), and was created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson. The Joker is a master criminal, whose characterization has varied from a violent sociopath who murders people, causes chaos and commits crimes for his own amusement, to a goofy and virtually harmless trickster-thief. The character is the archenemy of Batman, and has been responsible for numerous tragedies in the Caped Crusader’s life, including the paralysis of Barbara Gordon (Batgirl/Oracle) and the murder of Jason Todd (the second Robin). Wizard magazine rated Joker as the greatest villain of all time. The Joker’s real identity is unknown, and there have been different takes on his origin; the most common variation depicts him as having fallen into a vat of chemicals, which bleached his skin white, dyed his hair green and turned his lips bright red, giving him the appearance of a clown.

The character has appeared in numerous Batman related media; portrayed by Cesar Romero in the 1960s Batman television series; Jack Nicholson in the 1989 film Batman (Nicholson’s version of the Joker ranks #45 in the American Film Institute’s list of the top 50 film villains); voice actor Mark Hamill in the 1990s Batman: The Animated Series television series; and Heath Ledger in the 2008 Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight.

Heath Ledger described the Joker as a “psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy”. Nolan had wanted to work with Ledger on a number of projects in the past, but had been unable to do so. When Ledger saw Batman Begins, he realized a way to make the character work consistent with that film’s tone, and Nolan agreed with his anarchic interpretation. To prepare for the role, Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character’s posture, voice and psychology, and kept a diary, in which he recorded the Joker’s thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance. While he initially found it difficult, Ledger was eventually able to generate a voice that did not sound like Jack Nicholson’s take on the character in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film. He was also given Batman: The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth to read, which he “really tried to read [...] and put it down”. Ledger also cited inspirations such as A Clockwork Orange and Sid Vicious, which were “a very early starting point for Christian [Bale] and I [sic]. But we kind of flew far away from that pretty quickly and into another world altogether.” “There’s a bit of everything in him. There’s nothing that consistent,” Ledger said, adding that “There are a few more surprises to him.” Before Ledger was confirmed to play the Joker in July 2006, Paul Bettany, Lachy Hulme, Adrien Brody, Steve Carell, and Robin Williams publicly expressed interest in the role.

On January 22, 2008, after he had completed filming The Dark Knight, Ledger suddenly died, leading to intense press attention and memorial tributes. “It was tremendously emotional, right when he passed, having to go back in and look at him every day,” Nolan recalled. “But the truth is, I feel very lucky to have something productive to do, to have a performance that he was very, very proud of, and that he had entrusted to me to finish.” All of Ledger’s scenes appear as he completed them in the filming; in editing the film, Nolan added no “digital effects” to alter Ledger’s actual performance posthumously. Nolan has dedicated the film in part to Ledger’s memory, as well as to the memory of technician Conway Wickliffe, who was killed during a car accident while preparing one of the film’s stunts.

Where to find Designer Toys in Taipei, Taiwan

Here's a very, very helpful tip on where & how to reach your toy destination. I find it just too hard not to take and post.

According to Bearbrick Lover, Taipei is a good hunting ground for designer toys.

How to find them: First, take the subway to the Zhongxiao Dunhua Station and get out at Exit 11. There, you'll find the Dinghao Shopping Center (above).

On the third level of Dinghao is Monster Taipei (above), a store which sells all kinds of toys, including Bearbricks. Jen Huang, the owner of this store is the driving force behind the Taipei Toy Festival, an annual event that has put Taipei on the map when it comes to designer toys.

Here, the staff will gladly give you directions to the next store (below).

Monster Gear, the sleek, upscale version of Monster Taipei, is only three blocks away. At this store, you do not have to sift through boxes – all the toys are properly displayed behind clear glass, like easy targets. If you're also scouting around for fashionable street gear, just go down the basement.

The store (which is on the 2nd floor) is neatly organized – it's the sheer number of choices that will confuse you!

It's the best place to find Bearbricks in Taipei (or in the world, even) – look at this display! Thanks to the wonderful salesperson (I forgot her name); she gave me two (2) free 'secret' bears because I spent so much – haha!

Finally, there's Paradise Toys, only a minute away from Hot Dog Toyz. Not quite 'paradise' in terms of size but definitely worth a visit.

In my (Bearbrick Lover's) experience, the hunt for designer vinyl toys is not easy. They are only available in a few specialty stores that are often hard to find. Even in big cities where such toys have a large cult following – New York City, San Francisco, Paris, London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei – you'd better come armed with Internet research if you don't want to go home empty-handed.

Be@rbrick Daft Punk 400% Twin Pack

Finally, pictures and information of the 400% Daft Punk Be@rbrick that had been showcase at the Medicom Toy Exhibition 2008 have surface to the online public. The design of the Be@rbrick is base on the http://www.toybeast.com/2007/10/25/bearbrick-alive-2007-by-daft-punk/ that release in October 2007.

This set of Be@brick is not only the very first 400% Daft Punk Be@rbrick, it is also the very first 400% Twin Pack that announced by Medicom Toy. But, we had learned that Medicom Toy will release another set of 400% Be@rbrick Twin Pack in December 2008. This will make the Daft Punk Be@rbrick to be the 2nd set of 400% Twin Pack to be available in the market.

This is a new blog on anything about Bearbricks. Was inspired by "Bearbrick Lover" who owns an award winning Bearbrick blog at http://bearbricklove.blogspot.com/

The photo above shows my very limited amount of Bearbricks I have so far. Hey, afterall, I started collecting only in the middle of 2o08. A lil' more introduction. I'm a Bearbrick lover, who fell in love with Bearbricks when I came across an actual photo of the latter online. Thus, after browsing through e-bay, I got my very 1st Bearbrick and it was a Pushead WCC Silver Anniversary 400% and 100% set (Left). I got my 2nd Bearbrick (400% and 100%) which is the Royalefam Bearbrick 2 days ago. I bought it from a local store called GALLERY located in Orchard Road, Singapore. In between these 2 Bearbrick sets, I also purchased a Bearbook which features all of Medicom's Bearbricks. It also came with a 10th Year Anniversary 100% Bearbrick (Center). Bearbrick Lover was the one who found the website selling the Bearbook for me. Regards to you and to all you BearbrickERs and lovers.
